Can I use a an electric drill in garden soil
l need to sink a bird feeder at least 12 inches into ground. It will only
go down about 8 inches but it leaves it a bit shaky. l do however
have a long drill for masonery. Can l use this to drill a deeper hole, or
is there a tool l can get on the market. l have tried hammering it
down but not good enough Thanks in advance and l appreciate any help
you can give me Marswann Al(a mechanic) please note and dont be so silly. Read the question Just to add that l do have to move the bird feeder from time to time as a lot of bird debris would accumulate making it unhygenic so there is no way l wanna cement it in the ground. so anyone suggesting cement and concrete forget it !!
put the bird feeder some where else silly, I mean it could be a
matter of inches. Al.
sure that will work. Another way is to pour a bucket of water
in the area where you want to set the feeder. Put the post in, pour the
water around the post and come back tomorrow and try again. This should
loosen the soil where you want to set the post and let you drive it in.
where I live the soil is hard and rocky - I found that if I use
an auger that is made for boring into the ground for planting bulbs in the
end of my drill
I can dig a hole as deep as I want -
I use the auger to break up the soil - then shovel it out
if your soild is not like clay or rocky - my guess is an auger on your drill will get you down deep enough and in no time at all
Dig a hole twelve inches deep, fill the bottom with concrete
and sink your post in then, use braces to keep it plumb whilst the
concrete dries. Once it is dried, take off the braces and fill the hole
back in.
Sure, you can use your drill. The masonry bit might do it but
an auger bit would be better as it would pull the dirt out as it digs. A
very long auger bit is pretty expensive. There are ads on tv sometimes for
the 'Awesome Auger' which looks like a great idea, but I have read that it
is a piece of junk. So, whatever works. My bird feeder will be steady
for awhile but eventually always works loose so I have piled some large
rocks around it.
As long as the soil is dry no problem go ahead, mind there are
no cables running where you are drilling..
smudge.
Dig out a hole and get a bag of postcrete
If a post hole digger won't do it try moving over a little.
Hopefully it is a small rock.
